A member of Pepperdine's 1992 national championship team and an assistant coach for the Waves the past four seasons, Steve Rodriguez, 32, became the University's 16th head baseball coach when he was named to the position on June 18, 2002. Rodriguez, who earned All-American honors in 1991 and 1992, becomes only the third former Pepperdine player to assume the head coaching duties for the Waves in the program's 64-year history. Gary Marks became the first former Pepperdine player to pilot the program when he skippered the program from 1963-67.

Rodriguez, a fifth-round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox in 1992, was named WCC "Player of the Year" in 1992 as the Waves posted a 48 – 11 mark and captured the College World Series (CWS) title. Rodriguez was named to the All – CWS team and was part of two memorable plays in Omaha – a grand slam that helped defeat Texas in the semifinal round and a late-inning defensive gem in the Waves' 3-2 win over local rival Cal State Fullerton in the championship game.A first-team All-West Coast Conference (WCC) selection in 1991 and 1992, Rodriguez made a big splash as a sophomore in 1991 when he batted .419, the second highest single-season average in school history. His 104 base hits that season are a Pepperdine single-season record. He currently ranks in the Top 10 in five different single-season categories. This past fall, Rodriguez was named one of the WCC's Top 50 athletes of all-time that was announced by the conference office.

Rodriguez returned to Pepperdine to earn his Master's Degree in Educational Technology in 2003.

Joe Wilkins is in his first season as a volunteer assistant coach at Pepperdine. Wilkins was hired by head coach Steve Rodriguez in July of 2009.

Wilkins responsibilities will include training the catchers, helping to develop the offense and coaching first base.

Wilkins move to Pepperdine marks his West Coast coaching debut. He spent this past season volunteering at Wake Forest where he tutored 2009 Cape Cod All-Star catcher Mike Murray.

Prior to his hiring at Wake Forest, Wilkins spent more than year working at the Florida-based IMG Academies where he worked under former Cleveland Indians bench coach Ken Bolek as the full-time catching instructor.

Wilkins helped in the development of 2009 New York Yankees second round draft pick J.R. Murphy while at IMG. A catcher, Murphy hit .627 this spring with 11 home runs in 102 at-bats. He added 34 extra-base hits and struck out just four times.

While with the Cows, Wilkins was the third base coach and worked with the hitters, catchers, outfielders and infielders. Wilkins began his coaching career at Dublin Scioto High School during the 2005 season, where he worked with the catchers and served as the off-season hitting instructor.

Wilkins played professionally for three years, spending time in the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks farm systems. He led the Northwest League's Yakima Bears in hitting in 2002.

A four-year letterwinner at Ohio State, Wilkins was named second team All-Big Ten during the 2002 season and also earned Most Outstanding Player honors at the 2002 Big Ten Tournament after hitting a walkoff home run vs. Indiana. The Buckeyes won two Big Ten regular season championships and advanced to three NCAA Tournaments, including a Super Regional appearance in 1999, during Wilkins' collegiate career.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Wilkins graduated from Ohio State in 2005 with a degree in human ecology and a specialization in consumer affairs. He earned his masters of business administration in 2007 from Tiffin University.
